Thomas R. Trout

Thomas R. Trout grew up in Charleston, Mississippi and currently resides in New Albany, Mississippi, where he has made his home for the last 35 years. T.R. is one of the founding shareholders of Trout Law Firm, PLLC. He received his Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Mississippi in 1971 and his Law Degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1974, where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class.

Upon graduation from law school, T.R. clerked on the Mississippi Supreme Court under Justice William H. Inzer. In 1975 he was hired by the Washington County Public Defenders Office and began defending individuals accused of crimes under the direction of John Webb. In the public defender’s office TR handled numerous felony criminal defense cases and criminal appeals.


In 1977, T.R. moved to New Albany and joined the law firm of Darden, Sumners, Carter and Trout. While at Darden, Sumners, Carter and Trout, T.R. handled a wide array of civil litigation. In 1992, T.R. opened his own law firm in New Albany in order to pursue a larger criminal defense practice. While working as a solo practitioner, T.R. handled a wide spectrum of cases including criminal defense cases, both in the State and Federal Courts of Mississippi. In 1994, T.R. argued Shannon v. U.S. in the United States Supreme Court. In 1998, then District Attorney Jim Hood offered T.R. a job as a prosecutor in 3rd Circuit District Attorney’s Office. From 1998 to 2008, T.R. tried to verdict numerous felony cases as a prosecutor. In 2009 he opened The Trout Law Firm and in 2010 the firm was converted to a partnership when his son, Clark, joined him in practice.

Currently, T.R. is a personal injury and criminal defense attorney who devotes his practice to the representation of those injured as a result of someone else’s negligence and the defense of individuals accused of crime. T.R. has a strong criminal practice in both the State and Federal Courts. He has a misdemeanor defense practice that includes the defense of individuals accused of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).


T.R. is married to Beverly Clark Trout who is originally from Charleston, Mississippi. They have four adult sons, Troy, Atkins, Clark and Mac. Troy is married to Katie Tate Trout and they have three children, Lela, Eva, and Tate. Clark is married to Brenna Davis Trout and they have two sons, Davis and Jacob. Mac is married to Mallory Nix Trout of Batesville, Mississippi, and they have two children, Lily and Tom. Atkins has lived and worked abroad extensively including in Asia and Oceania and currently resides in Oxford, Mississippi. 

 

T.R. enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening and reading. He, along with his wife Beverly, are members of First United Methodist Church in New Albany, Mississippi.
